Vegas

Dec 10th, 2012
I am finally getting around to posting this....  We went to Vegas the first part of November and it was great.  This was the first time our kids actually did stuff in vegas.  First we went to Circus Circus and had them go on a bunch of rides. Kairi was so scared of the Frog ride and made the funniest faces.  She was SO excited to ride the train but Kaden was too scared to go on it.  We played a bunch of games and the kids had a blast!

Since we had gotten a new camera shortly before the trip, I was taking pictures of everything I could, here are a few shots I got while driving around.

We went to eat inside the forum shops and there was this big aquarium that the kids loved

We stopped at Walmart to get the kids some cheap toys. Kaden got a car and Kairi got a microphone that she LOVES!  She is always grabbing my Rock Band microphone and talking in it.  She would talk loud in the big end and then talk into the small wire at the bottom with a really soft, quiet voice. It was so funny!  We then went bowling with everyone which was fun at first, then the kids got bored.  I won both games!

On our way home, we stopped at Kolob Canyon and got some pictures, they turned out great!

This was the only picture I was able to get before my batteries died. Kairi was pretending her headband was a princess crown and put the stars in the middle of her forehead.

Here's some more pictures that Jamie took. Thanks Jamie!

Baby Birds

Posted By: Allie
Aug 15th, 2012
Baby robins have gotten stuck in our window wells 3 times this summer. It's so sad to see their parent's so worried. They just fly around chirping and there's nothing they can do. And when I retrieve the baby from the window well it's so sweet to see how the parent's are so thrilled.

The second time it happened I let Madrox have a little fun with it. Since the baby couldn't go anywhere, I opened the window and with the screen still in I let him sit and watch the bird. He went crazy over it, being so close but couldn't grab it.
When I got that one out, I found another one on the other side of the house. He was perched on some tumble weeds so I just lifted the whole thing out with him still hanging on.

Been Busy

Posted By: Allie
Aug 15th, 2012
It's 5 am and I can't sleep. All I can think about is what I need to get finished for my next booth. If I didn't suffer from anxiety so bad it wouldn't bother me so much. This working from home seems to be taking over my life at the moment. I usually try to go back to sleep, but I started thinking about how it's been a while since I updated our website and boy was I right.
From the time I signed up for the first booth, all of my time has gone towards working. Most of the time our house looked like this:

It's getting better though. I've been trying to manage my time better and it seems to be working, though I still don't have a lot of time for things like blogging. I'm very grateful to be able to help with the income as well as be home with my kids, and with Kaden starting preschool soon I'm hoping to get more work done with less distractions so I have more time to do fun things. And if anyone has any tips on improving time management I'd love to hear them.

Steel Days

I am very happy to announce that Allie will be participating at the Steel Days Craft Boutique in American Fork UT, on July 20th at 4:00 - 9:00pm and the 21st at 10:30am - 2:30pm.  There is also a Picnic in the park, outdoor movie and free childrens games on the 20th at 6pm so its a perfect time to get out of the house and come drop by our booth!  We are also planning to have a fun raffle sort of drawing where every $10 spent at our booth will get you a name in for the drawing.  We have not decided how much the prize will be worth, but may depend on how many entries we get.

This is Allie's first time getting a booth or doing anything like this, so she would really love any support you have to offer, even if you just drop by to say hi and pick up a business card or two. I am so excited for her to be moving forward with her tallent that last night I could not sleep and ended up cleaning the living room and kitchet at 2 in the morning to show my appreciation.

Good Luck Allie!!  I love you!

P.S.  We have not finalized having our kids watched during this time, so if you are able and willing to help watch our kids so I can help Allie at her booth, please let us know.

Nap Time

Kairi was really grumpy one afternoon so I told her to go lay down in her bed. She agreed to the nap part, but didn't want to lay in her bed. Instead, she chose a spot right in front of the stairs to sleep.

Hot Air Balloons

Posted By: Allie
May 26th, 2012
Every spring and early summer we get a ton of hot air balloons floating around our house. It seems like a ton to me anyway, there are always two and this is the second time this month. They get REALLY close, we'll be sleeping at 7am and i'll wake up to the sound of the hot air getting pumped into the balloon.  I'll look out the window and the balloon will be just skimming over the top of our house, like the are wanting to land in the park behind us. I'll wake up the kids and we'll go watch them, they love it.

Got this cute idea from Myndi. I drew a bunch of roads with chalk for the kids to drive their cars around on. They had so much fun driving on the roads and adding on to it. Then it rained the next day, so we'll have to do it over again.

Myndi and Ty invited us to go to the canyon with them for dinner. I don't think we've ever taken the kids there before where we actually stayed and made a fire. They were having the best time running around and exploring. We made tin foil dinners and roasted marshmallows. What a fun evening.

Board Games

May 8th, 2012

Kaden has been asking to play a lot of board games lately, and now that he's a little older it's getting funner to play with him. We have a few board games for kids, but it would be nice to get more for his age. We had fun playing Candyland, after I showed them how to play a few times they started a game by themselves and played together.

Movie Day

Posted By: Allie
May 5th, 2012
Every once in a while Jared's work will have a movie day up in Ogden and is allowed to bring guests, so I came along and got to hang out with all his co-workers. We saw The Avengers and it was great! We watched Thor and Captain America last week so we'd know what was going on. The Avengers ended up being a lot funnier than some comedies, I loved it. After the movie we went back to the company's main office where they provided a barbecue and had lawn games. So it was a pretty fun day.

Then after dinner we had some fun with the kids in the hot tub.

Orange Cream Cookies

Posted By: Allie
May 4th, 2012

1  pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz)  sugar cookie mix
3  tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1  teaspoon orange extract
1  teaspoon vanilla
1  egg
5  drops yellow food color
2  drops red food color
1 1/2  cups white vanilla baking chips

Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, stir all ingredients except baking chips until soft dough forms. Stir in baking chips.

On ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough with 1 1/2 tablespoon-size cookie scoop or by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.

Bake 9 to 10 minutes or just until dough is set (do not overbake). Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely

When I made these I used a homemade sugar cookie recipe and just added the orange flavor and baking chips because I had forgotten to get the "premade" mix. I didn't really think about how the homemade recipe would make more dough than if I had used a store mix, so there wasn't as much orange flavor. They were still yummy, but i'd like to try these again following the recipe exactly.

I can clean again!

Posted By: Allie
May 2nd, 2012
Our vacuum broke a couple weeks ago and I have been hating it. Why bother cleaning the rest of the house if you can't vacuum...that's pretty much the way I felt. ha ha ha. And not to mention our washer and drier are going out...more expenses that weren't really expected for a little while longer. We think we know what needs to be fixed on the washer though, so we ordered a part and are going to try to cheaper route, and hopefully save ourselves a lot of money. Our vacuum on the other hand was not fixable. So we went out today and bought a new one...I couldn't have been more thrilled.
And just a little opinion i have, with having used both bagged and bagless vacuums, I much prefer the bagged type. My bagged one lasted twice as long as the other and there wasn't a need to wash out the digusting filters and dirt cups....blah.

We also got our new hot tub cover delivered today. The difference in weight is HUGE. Our old one had so much water that seaped inside it was almost too heavy for me to lift. The new one is so light. We also got a cover lift which is really nice because it helps lift the top off and provides a place to keep it so it's not just laying on the ground when you're in the hot tub. And Jared got a little spa vacuum thing to clean all the dirt and stuff off the bottom of the tub. Ya...sometimes I feel like my husband pays more attention to this thing than me, ha ha.

And cute little Kairi.

I don't really know what this other stuff is, but has something to do with modding another xbox. Jared seemed pretty excited and even came home early as soon as I said it had come in the mail. Ha ha ha.

Strawberry Jam

Posted By: Allie
Apr 28th, 2012

This is what I made today. Bought a big carton of strawberries at costco and was so excited to make jam. We've been out of this flavor for a long time and it seems to be the kids' favorite.

So I get started and have the mashed strawberries coming to a boil in a pot. The kids are playing outside and Jared tells me that some big kid is driving Kaden's power wheels and raming into people. (This is why I tell Kaden that only HE is allowed to drive it) So I go out there and chase the kid down and tell him the power wheels need to get put away. And I come back in and find out my jam is burning. THANKS KID.

Though it didn't burn TOO much, I can certainly tell it has a scorched taste. I don't want to waist a whole batch, so I guess we are now going to have to eat it.

What I've been up to

Posted By: Jared
Apr 24th, 2012
I have been quite busy the past couple of weeks.  I went to Heathers house and saw how Jed did her shelves and desk in her craft room, so then I went to home depot and got allies craft room set up with desks and shelves

We planted 2 new trees in the backyard which is a peach tree and another that we positioned to help block the neighbors light that shines in our backyard (especially the hot tub) at night.

We got our deck washed and ready for paint (aaron mostly did that, but we prepped it he he) and then primed and painted it within a couple days.

My home server that we use to watch shows, movies and store our pictures, music and personal files kept crashing (might have been because of Jamie LOL) so we replaced the server with a more reliable one even though it was one of the cheapest ones we found online.

I got this website along with about 12 others moved over to a new host since my old one had very poor service and my sites were always down.  Among these 12 sites is estimated 60,000 files and probably close to 100 Gigs in size.  Every second of the days were spent tranferring files, setting up permissions, configuring the DNS and databases.  At least while the files were transferring, I didnt have to be at my computer.

I re-painted my dads trailer and love how it turned out.  Allie had to take a few trips to walmart though because the paint we got did not work, so she had to get new paint, then we ran out and had to get more.  I found an old can of primer that was full but did not work and just oozed brown stuff, so we got that taken back for some black paint.

We got a hot tub cover lift that will help lift the cover off the hot tub and stores it upright on the side.  I got it set up and ready to go, but am waiting for the new hot tub cover to come since our current cover is old, worn out and VERY heavy.  I dont want to use it with our current cover because it may break it.

Allie got this spider barrier spray which comes in a $5 gallon bucket that I sprayed around the whole house and around the hot tub A TON!!  So far I have not seen any spiders crawling around on the hot tub so it must be working.  Allie gets mad because I keep spraying it around the base each day and she says that its supposed to last all year.  When it first started getting warmer, I always saw a spider on the hot tub each time I went outside, so it was time to find a solution.  There are also 2 spider traps inside the side panel of it HA HA.

Lastly, I went shopping with my family and my mom for some birthday stuff.  Allie got me some new shoes which I needed badly and my parents helped get me a church suit which I have never had before.  My sister gave me a present as well which was 2 ties to go along with my new suit.  My whole family is so nice and am so happy to have them!

Farmland

Posted By: Allie
Apr 24th, 2012

Myndi invited us to go to farmland with her and Jaxon, this was our first time going, what a cute place. The kids wanted to feed every animal they saw, Kairi especially loved feeding the ducks. Her favorite was the pony ride, she had the biggest grin the whole time. Kaden liked it, but in the end when I asked what his favorite part was, he said the cars in the gift shop. ha ha ha, typical Kaden.

Easter

Posted By: Allie
Apr 24th, 2012

We had a fun Easter. The easter bunny brought coloring books, crayons, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and candy. The kids couldn't have been more excited. After lunch we traveled to Grandma and Grandpa Davis's for a BBQ. They had the best time.

Kaden had to pose in front of the car and in front of grandpa's motorcycle. I don't know where he comes up with these poses, ha ha. Kairi was trying to catch butterflies with a fishing net and everyone wanted to climb onto the lawn mower and go for a ride.

Cabin Trip

Apr 17th, 2012

We had a fun little cabin trip the weekend before we went to St George. The kids had a lot of fun with so many cousins to play with. Kaden had to do funny poses every time I tried to take a picture of him. We had a fun game night and played the Scotland Yard board game and snacked on a Red Velvet cheese ball, so yummy! What a great weekend.

St George Trip

Apr 2nd, 2012
We were so excited for our vacation, but it did not turn out so great.  I was sick a day or so before we left and then Kairi got sick before we left so on the way down she had a bad runny nose and I felt terrible.  On the way down the temperature on our car kept going up and about half way it overheated.  We drained the coolant and luckily Shawn had a new bottle of it, so we dumped the new stuff in and set off again.  About 10 miles later it started overheating again.  We pulled over, let it cool down and put some water in it.  This time when we set off, it was starting to get dark and much cooler and we drove with the heater on full blast to help cool the engine.   This helped quite a bit and we finally made it to our destination and decided to stop to get groceries for the next day.

We pulled in to the parking lot and there was a car cutting accross the lanes as I was going down the lane and he almost did not stop for me.  I put on my brakes kind of hard and finally he stopped, so I spun my tires a bit and went to park... the guy turned around and pulled up to where we were and said "DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM"?  I simply said no, "the best I could with my voice going out on my from being sick", and continued to get the kids out of the car...  He sat there for just a second and then drove away.

After we got some food, we set off to the house, but realized that we had forgotten the key.  We were luckily able to get in with a spare key and wanted to relax to a nice movie after that long, bad ride down.  We started to hear beeping around the house and find out a handfull of smoke detector batteries are dead.  There was a drawer with a few batteries in it, so we set off to replace all the ones that were beeping and finish un-packing our stuff.  Got the kids in bed and headed down to watch a movie.... NOPE, the batteries in the remote were dead which control the theater system so that was not going to work. After a bit of fiddling around, we finally got it working without the remote and finished the movie before going to bed.

The next morning, I felt terrible so we decided to go see a doctor and get some medicine.  After a quick visit, he said that he thinks I had the flu and by now my voice was sounding very bad and I could barely talk.  He perscribed some cough medicine so we then went to get that and got back to the house.

My phone was dying and we forgot to pack up my charger, but Tonya had the same phone as me and had her charger, so I used hers to charge up my phone.

We called up some places to try and find some parts for my car and went to take it to a mechanic shop for assistance.  We determined that the radiator was bad and the fan clutch.  On the way down, we called up an auto parts store to see if they had a radiator in case we needed to replace it and there was only 1 available in SLC, so we had them order it in and they would have it in on Saturday.   We ended up getting those parts and headed back to the house after then realizing that the garage door was not working properly.

There was some extra oil that was used on the door and gears to help them work again which did not seem to help.  We gave up on that and set off taking apart the car.  Got everything done and back together in a few hours and the car worked great!

Kaden was always bugging to drive his bike outside so he drove it while we worked on the car. I peeked out of the garage where he was riding accross the street to some kids.  I heard him crying and looked out and he was walking back with his bike laying on the ground.  I went over there and his cheeck was all scraped up.  I carried him and the bike home and got him cleaned up and had him watch some cartoons.

When it came time to leave, we packed up our stuff and headed out.  The weather was awful and was very wet, rainy and snowy in some parts.  We got stuck in a traffic jam from a car that rolled over, and we were barely moving.  Just then Kairi started coughing in the back and threw up all over herself.  At this point, Kaden is now sick, I was still sick, Kairi was still sick and Allie was getting sick.  We pulled over to clean it up and then set on our way again.

Finally home!  That was not the best trip in the world, but at least my car is running great now and I am very happy that we had Shawn there to help us out!  Oh yea, at one point in the morning, I fell down the stairs too :)

Kairi's Party

Posted By: Allie
Mar 21st, 2012
I did a My Little Pony party for Kairi's third birthday. We decorated foam crowns and visors and I had a jar full of jelly beans and eveyone guessed "how much a pony could eat". I made sugar cookies topped with marshmallow fondant and bought some food coloring markers, each kid got to color a picture on their cookie to take home. For the cupcakes I made them in coordinating colors to match the main pony characters.

Snow...Finally

Mar 10th, 2012
With the lack of snow this season I'm pretty glad my kids' snow pants and boots are bigger than they should be. Most of the snow we've had was too little to play in, so when we finally got a big snow storm the kids were thrilled to go play out side. I got our sled out for them and they took turns pulling each other. Kairi gave up after a minute.

Monster Jam

Posted By: Allie
Mar 10th, 2012

We had an opportunity to buy Monster Jam tickets at a discounted price through Jared's work, and Kaden is crazy about monster trucks, so we just had to go. We weren't sure how Kairi would handle the whole experience because any loud noises really scare her, but she actually did really well. I picked up some ear plugs for everyone and some gel type ones for the kids. They helped a lot and the kids kept them in the whole time.

We got there early so we could see the monster trucks up close. Wow, the kids were so excited. They got up close to all the trucks and met some of the drivers. Grave Digger is Kaden's favorite, but we couldn't get too close becuase the line was so long. So we just stood in front of the line to get pictures.

The arena was pretty small so there wasn't anything too crazy, no crashes or roll overs, but it was still great to see. One of my favorite performers was the Titan, I think he was a little funner to watch than Grave Digger.

New Years

Mar 10th, 2012

I know this is "a little" late, but better late than never. I just never had the motivation to update our website, me and winter dont work well together. Now that things are starting to warm up and spring is just a few weeks away, i'm starting to feel the need to be more productive. So I have a few topics to post, starting with this fun New Years party we had.

We were invited to ring in the new year at Jamie's house, it was a lot of fun! We played bingo and had snacks and the kids played while we played cards. It was hard letting our kids stay up late, I'm pretty sure kaden fell asleep around 11:30, but new years is only once a year, why not let them have fun.
